As is expected, every track off the project capitalizes on the Christmas theme, everything from jolly tunes around trapping it up to eerie creepers that emulate Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch ensure that no matter what you’re cooking up in the kitchen this season, Gucci Mane’s wholesome holiday soundtrack has your back.

It’s not all season’s greetings, though; Gucci unzips the Santa suit to reveal a mesh marina on “Drummer,” where he trots out his best patois alongside Jamaican deejay Kranium. And then there are moments like “Snow,” where hearing Gucci rap about workers chewing coca leaves to stay awake over a masterfully warped sample of Boyz II Men’s “Let It Snow” will leave you wishing the East Atlanta Santa came more than once a year.

In East Atlanta Santa 3, you get to hear singers that sound like they were picked off of the street, … MERRY CHRISTMAS, GUCCI MANE FANS! . . . Gucci mainly relies on his boss-like demeanor to get by. None of the verses he drops on the album are outstanding rapping-wise . . . , but they are pretty damn appealing.

East Atlanta Santa 3 is a pleasant surprise for the trap legend. I laughed a lot, jammed a lot, and sang a lot. For 16 songs, the project feels like a breeze. Gucci knows when to start and end an idea without it growing old.
