Uproxx
Drip Season mixtape offers strong evidence that he’ll at least keep creating the music he’s known for at a high level for a while.
-
Pitchfork
The Atlanta rapper’s latest album is monotonous, short on the quirks and out-of-body experiences of his better projects.
-
Rolling Stone
Gunna’s ‘DS4EVER’ is Flashy, Intoxicating, and a Little Cliched.
-
The University Daily Kansan
With help from stars like Drake, Young Thug, and Roddy Ricch, “DS4EVER” supplies fans with Gunna’s usual hypnotic flows and amazing production.
-
Stereogum
This might not be terribly predictive, but on Apple Music, my streaming service of choice, DS4EVER is absolutely annihilating Dawn FM, the Weeknd album that came out on the same day. I don’t necessarily know what it means if an album of this kind of formless lysergic space-rap can become a genuine blockbuster, but I’m into it.

Ratings Game Music
In all seriousness, I think that Gunna has improved a lot as an artist these last couple of years. With that being said, in my humble opinion, DS4EVER features the best version of Gunna that I’ve ever heard. Throughout the project, he toys (and excels) with so many different flows, melodies, and rap styles, he shows us his vulnerable side, and he comes across as someone that confidently knows that he’s one of the best rappers in the game. I swear, I never looked at Gunna as a true first option until this very moment (I always thought that he was a great 1B).

Hot New HipHop
Without taking any significant risks with his sound, Gunna managed to create a quietly entertaining album, with multiple songs that will grow on the listener after the first listen. While the quality is what we've come to expect from Gunna, it is perhaps this same quality that we are growing weary of; and so it might be time for Gunna to explore new sonic boundaries and push his own melodies even further if he wants to continue to evolve as an artist.
-
HipHop DX
As life has forced Gunna’s growth, he’s clutched his surfboard and rode the waves through the high and lows, yielding more evocative narratives in the process. DS4EVER is proof he presumably won’t allow stardom to make him complacent, balancing improvements in song topics and technical skill, even if the drip talk has gone stale.
-
AllMusic
The resulting project feels noncommittal: DS4 is caught between the woozy, floating sounds of WUNNA and an older, heavier-hitting sound, yet nails neither.

Hardwood and Hollywood
However, even with these highlights and the solid first half of the album, the weaker tracks on this project hold it back from being near the top of Gunna’s catalog. The amount of good but not great songs also really limit the ceiling of this album, and the length of the project does it absolutely no favors.
