  • Louder

In fact, Dominion is possibly the most pop thing they’ve done to date. Relentlessly uplifting and melodramatic throughout, the title track is a manic banger, as are Ignite, Destroyer, Beyond Incredible, Destiny and Shout Your Freedom; even a slow ballad like Forever Or The End gets in your face. With Dominion, Skillet really are preaching to the converted. Ker-ching!

  • Cryptic Rock

It’s not an extreme diversion for the band who are loyal to many things, including their signature sound, but Dominion does set aside time to color outside the lines. The fact that it does so with those ever-present rose-colored glasses is a testament to Skillet’s faith—in God, humanity, and the universal language of music.

  • My Global Mind

If you want an album that mixes it up, offers hope when you can’t easily find it somewhere else and provides an outlet for your own frustrations then look no further than this gem. If you feel like you’re carrying the weight of the world at the moment then listen to ‘Dominion‘ and feel that weight lift. This isn’t a push towards religion or suggesting that you need to find your faith, just simply an album from a band that, through the music they produce, help you find some light in the darkness and right now, that might be just what we need.

Ultimately, just as there is a push and pull between oppressive and liberating forces in the theme of the record, there is tension between disjointed and cohesive elements in its sound and structure. While certain tracks are enjoyable individually, the fragmented parts don't add up to a satisfying whole.

Dominion delivers another powerful collection of dynamic modern rock songs that are as life-affirming as they are hard-hitting.

Skillet has crafted something that’s as equally enjoyable with the volume cranked up as it is providing a backdrop to coffee-fueled car-ride small talk and garage DIY shenanigans. The Skillet is not quite hot yet, but it’s warming up - and I look forward to what Cooper and company cook up in the future.

  • Rock 'N' Load

It’s safe to say that Skillet are determined to hold their title and this latest album just proves that. It’s full of tracks that are so undeniable as the band however they have managed to elevate themselves and keep moving with the times which is exactly what bands who have been in the business for as long as these guys need to do to stay relevant. It seems that the band has plenty to show still and will hopefully continue to keep bringing us great albums like this.

In the end, as is made clear by this album's four-star rating, neither of these critiques seriously detract from the overall experience of Dominion. Cooper and company have delivered yet another album which is sure to please the present-day fans, and one which may even bring a few departed Panheads back into the fold.

This is a strong modern rock record from experts at their craft, with enough killer to continue to assert Skillet’s dominion over the arena metal competition.
