Discovery
| Daft PunkDiscovery
Discovery is the second studio album by French electronic music duo Daft Punk, released on 26 February 2001 by Virgin Records. It marks a shift from the Chicago house sound prevalent on their first studio record, Homework (1997), to a house style more heavily inspired by disco, post-disco, garage house, and R&B. Comparing their stylistic approach to their previous album, band member Thomas Bangalter described Discovery as an exploration of song structures and musical forms whereas Homework was "raw" electronic music. He also described Discovery as a reflection of the duo's childhood memories, when they listened to music with a more playful and innocent viewpoint. - Wikipedia

Pitchfork
Daft Punk focus on fusing mid-80's Kool and the Gang R&B; beats with post-millennial prog flourishes and more vocoders than you can shake at Herbie Hancock.
-
Rolling Stone
On Daft Punk’s second album, Discovery, the duo suggests that commodification has its positive side: that a really enormous song, a piece of invincible product like, say, Cher’s “Believe,” is as finely crafted as any obscure dance opus or underground hip-hop track.

The album’s mix of French House, R&B, and disco makes it absolute required listening for anyone who cares to know about dance music, and the expert sequencing makes it a stone-cold classic front-to-back that is meant to be listened to as a whole.
-
Music AV Club
While Discovery embraces the cheesiness of the lamest of lame music, the strategy frequently comes across as gimmickry.
-
NME
Call it pop. Call it art. Call it retro-cheese neo-fusion with a side order of emperor’s new arse.
-
All Music
Deserting the shrieking acid house hysteria of their early work, the album moves in the same smooth filtered disco circles as the European dance smashes.

Nerdist
Daft Punk's discovery is untouchable.
-
Sputnik Music
Disco, house and pop combined into something unexpectedly forward-thinking that the world is just now almost catching up with.
-
Music OMH
Discovery takes all the cheesiness of its influences and spins them through heavy electronic filters and synthesized beats to create something entirely new in the world of dance music.
-
Pop Matters
I have a feeling that Discovery is going to go down in the books as one of the best entries into the dance and techno genre.
-

Some put ‘Discovery’ under the concept album category, whether it is that or just a collection of great songs it flows beautifully together, an album that has to be played for its entirety every time

Daft Punk: Banishes rainy day blahs and makes housecleaning kicky!

Bored and Dangerous
A record like Discovery must have been a party godsend.
-
New York Times
"Discovery" is an immediately likable album that easily shuttles back and forth across the borders of dance, alternative and pop.

I will admit that some of the tracks get a little too redundant and/or noisy for me, but for a short album, it’s a very satisfying one.
