DEMI

Demi is the eponymous fourth studio album by American singer Demi Lovato. It was released on May 10, 2013, by Hollywood Records. Looking to transition from her self-described "generic" third album Unbroken (2011), Lovato wanted to make her fourth album to "have songs that excited her". The album incorporates pop with elements of synthpop, and bubblegum pop. The album was recorded between 2012 and 2013, when Lovato served as a judge during the second season of The X Factor. -Wikipedia

  • Renowned for Sound

Demi pulls at the heart strings when she lets go of control in the end, her voice soaring and breaking in all the right places. It’s desperate and wonderful and I finally began to get it.

Parts of “Demi” allow the listener to hear Lovato’s compassion in her changing tones and soft, feminine voice. Her creativity and originality, though, isn’t quite there yet.

While the ballad work is not Demi's best (though it could easily trump similar efforts by Gaga and Perry), and the pop songs may all sound similar, its hard to deny that this album is what she promised: Pop music.

  • Sputnik Music

Demi's fourth studio album shows a little progress and certainly has a couple of strong numbers but aside from that it is still the whiter-than-white, clean pop image that nearly every artist in the genre goes for and fails completely at times.

Not since Britney Spears' early '00 albums have we liked grabbing a hairbrush and singing into it front of a mirror while pretending to be the girl crush and envy of females under the age of 20 everywhere!
