Dark Horse

Dark Horse is the sixth studio album by the Canadian rock band Nickelback, released on November 17, 2008, in Europe and a day later elsewhere. It is the follow-up to their multi-platinum selling All the Right Reasons (2005). It was co-produced by the band and producer and songwriter Robert John "Mutt" Lange, known for working with such acts as Foreigner, AC/DC, Bryan Adams, Def Leppard and Shania Twain. Dark Horse sold 326,000 in its first week and debuted at number 2 in the US. More than a year after its release, the album did not leave the Top 100 on the Billboard 200. In its 91st week, the album peaked at #46 for the week of August 28, 2010. From 9 October, the album stayed at #71 for 97 consecutive weeks. The album spent 125 consecutive weeks inside the Billboard 200. On the week of November 29, 2014, Dark Horse re-entered the Billboard 200 at #195, more than six years after the album's release. - Wikipedia

May 16, 2018. Though he’s traded in the brutal noise and angst of his youth for a more mellow, measured perspective in his new home base of country, Dawson’s discipline is evident on his solo debut Dark Horse, which was released in January via Elektra/Warner Bros.

January 19, 2018. . . . the album is hip and it runs cold, not hot. This sensibility means that it can slip by upon the first listen, but like most pop music designed to endure repeated spins, either on personalized playlists or radio, Dark Horse reveals its sly gifts upon repeated plays.

January 22, 2018. The singer-songwriter’s unorthodox method of country music is refreshing the genre and continuing to breathe life into the pop and R&B crossover that has been on the rise.

January 24, 2018. Dawson’s first album sounds like an artist’s third or fourth album when they try to experiment with a new sound. Dawson will only improve as he refines his sound, but Dark Horse is one hell of a starting point.

May 14, 2018. Much of it personally reminds me of the subtly introverted, melancholic nature and also of the vocals, the less blues-stressed things of a John Mayer . Mostly very nice music to relax, sometimes danceable, not least thanks to the very transparent and crystal clear production of Joyce.

January 22, 2018. Dawson’s Dark Horse shows first-rate potential and is bound to generate plenty of country hits.

On Dark Horse, “Mutt” Lange lightens Nickelback’s dreary post-grunge plod, applying guitar shimmer to prom ballads and detonating big beats under frat-party shouts and raplike vocal parts.

There’s a reason Nickelback are hated by millions and got rocks thrown at them in Greece. This album boils it all down into one handy package for you to piss on.

Dark Horse was constructed entirely from the group's standard templates of bleating power ballads and dulled hard rock.

Well overall; the guys make a pretty good attempt at getting a reputation for making music in the same vein as AC / DC and friends.

I pretty much like the ENTIRE album, which is very unusual for me. I usually find at least a couple of songs where I hit skip, but there's no filler to be found here; this is a must-have disc.

Dark Horse is the sound of Nickelback's worst tendencies respectfully subsumed into Lange's, which isn't nearly as offensive as it might sound to non-fans.
