Cherry Bomb, Tyler’s fourth long-player and third official album, bears all the hallmarks of his personality, for good and for ill. Smart, annoying, obnoxious, and creative, it's a reminder that Tyler, the Creator only creates as the sum of his exhaustive, trying, kaleidoscopic self.

The albums are rating lower because of the weak tracks on here. And on some of the songs, I wish his voice was a little louder on the songs with major subject matter.

Tyler is eager to show off his impressive versatility, but the disjointedness makes this anything but a smooth listen.

Now, it’s just Tyler making the album he wants to make, and anyone who doesn’t like it is free to not listen. Fair enough, but he shouldn’t be surprised if fewer fans take him up on it this time.

It’s no dynamite but it can cause some damage. I don't know what kind of boom Tyler envisioned this album would make, but it’s explosive from beginning to end, and explosions sound anything but clear.

Cherry Bomb has a few enormous potholes, and even the enjoyable moments can be a bumpy ride. But during its standout moments, it’s the smoothest road Tyler has ever paved.

Although it’s a proper representation of both Tyler’s past and present, Cherry Bomb may be a tough pill to swallow for some diehard fans who may not be able to stomach the more contemporary movements.

Cherry Bomb is the first time in a long time that we’ve gotten to see Tyler grow up at all, but is it too much to ask for this 24-year-old man to mature a little faster?

We don't want him to stop experimenting, but to go back into the lab, where a few well-placed slugs to the machine could produce something truly special.

The term genius is thrown around a lot (to the extent that this sentence itself has become a cliché), but Tyler, The Creator is pretty close. At least if we take his word for it.

Ultimately, while ‘Cherry Bomb’ shows Tyler’s promise as a producer, it pales in comparison to his past works. It’s worth a listen, but I doubt ‘Cherry Bomb’ will be considered one of the greatest albums of all time or anything similar.
