Let’s get right to it. “Cage To Rattle” is so bland that you could listen to it with your mum, your gran, and just about anyone else and no one is going to get offended.

Cage to Rattle finds the sextet at something of a crossroads, attempting to navigate the distance between their hard-rocking past and their mellowed present.

Irrelevancy is a sobering thing to witness.

Daughtry plays it safe in Cage To Rattle, delivering an easy, inoffensive listen but failing to really carve out a place for themselves in the current pop rock scene.

‘Cage To Rattle’ is a risky move from Daughtry. How do you gain a new audience without alienating your core fan-base? Only time will tell if it pays off, but Daughtry deserves credit for taking that risk.

  • The Soundboard

Albums like this are the reason that radio-rock gets such a bad reputation; there’s no heart or passion here, but just giving the people more of what they want, and that’s extremely difficult to endorse in any capacity.

Overall this is a good effort by the North Carolina band, but it barely holds on to their grunge-rock roots.

Perhaps Daughtry’s more hard-hearted fans will interpret this album’s track structure as hinting at a return to heavier things, and a concurrent return to all-conquering form.

Cage To Rattle seemed like it could be a return to form. It’s the first record with decent artwork for a start, and some of the songs released ahead of the album sounded very promising.

I’ve got a feeling that this album is going to be one that grows on you the more you listen to it, and though at first listen I’m not wholly blown away I can’t help feeling that I’ll be revisiting the album at some point with hopefully, a different point of view.

It has left a bad taste in my mouth and now I need a glass of water…or H20, whichever, since it is the same thing.

If you're looking for music that's solid enough background noise for a party or while you're in your hose, this is a fine choice, but for music you'd want to hear on repeat, this isn't really it.
