Buy Me a Boat

Buy Me a Boat is the debut album of American country music singer Chris Janson. The album was released on October 30, 2015. It features the singles "Buy Me a Boat", "Power of Positive Drinkin'" and "Holdin' Her". Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic wrote that "if [the title track's] accompanying album isn't quite up to its standards, it's nevertheless the work of an accomplished writer who knows how to sculpt a song for a wide audience. If Buy Me a Boat can be faulted, it's because its diversity often plays like a demo tape, with Janson crafting songs for any possible contemporary country audience."-Wikipedia

  • The New York Times

November 4, 2015. Mr. Janson’s impressive full-length debut album, titled after his breakthrough hit, is an extension of that promise, from the rambunctious “Power of Positive Drinkin’ ” to the tough flirtation “Save a Little Sugar” to the surprisingly affecting “Yeah It Is,” a pickup song with a moral center.

  • Sounds Like Nashville

October 28, 2015. This album is very much slanted with a lot of today’s sounds. However, even when Janson sprinkles that into his music, you still buy it. It’s a part of him that is as natural as any sound out there.

At times, it seems that Janson struggles with his identity, torn between chasing fads or focusing on the quality of the song. When he settles in, he can write a great country song, but at times his inexperience at this level shines through.

November 3, 2015. This album is filled with bar room stompers and tender love songs which carry a true country sound. And that’s a good thing.

October 17, 2016. What I found in the album was good. It isn’t as raw as his EP, but nor is it obviously tainted by pigeon-holing by the label, and so for a debut effort, I would say it was a thoroughly satisfying record.

October 30, 2015. Everything here suggests an artist that can be a guy who takes the mantle from McGraw, Chensey, Shelton and Paisley to blend country’s past with country’s present and to join them all as a star in the country music world.

All the different sounds feel like Janson is covering his bases, hoping that one of these tunes will click, and this can sometimes show the limits of his performing range: . . . . This means that Buy Me a Boat is a debut, one with where the highlights shine brighter due to its occasional muddle, but even if he's sorting out his own distinctive voice, it's clear Janson has the chops to get him where he wants to go.

  • 105.5 The Eagle

November 4, 2015. Chris Janson’s “Buy Me a Boat” is a working-class anthem, a bone-dry, heavily drawled shrug about the downside of wage labor. It’s also wry: “They call me redneck, white trash and blue collar/but I could change all that if I had a couple million dollars.”

November 5, 2015. Mr. Janson’s full-length debut album, titled after his breakthrough hit, feels like the beginning of a comeback for rural-minded country.
