Breakthrough

Breakthrough is the second studio album by American singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat. The album was released on August 19, 2009 through Universal Republic Records. The follow-up to her successful debut album, Coco (2007), Breakthrough was developed in late 2008 when Caillat returned to her home after two years on tour, with the singer setting up a "writing camp" with songwriters and producers in Hawaii and writing over 40 songs for the record. - Wikipedia

"Bubbly" singer avoids sophomore slump by sticking to her strengths: a pretty, nuanced voice and songs about boys and empowerment.

  • The Telegraph

Caillat returns with a second helping of bland-yet-sickly songs.

Underneath all that gloss, Caillat remains a simple girl singing songs of love as light and crisp as a sugar cookie.

A mediocre effort that wears well but quickly fades from memory.

  • The Know

These sunny, inoffensive songs are born on acoustic guitar and then fleshed out to something more suitable for radio.

It's all rather rote, but a gang of studio musicians and guest producers work hard to employ pianos, horns and strings to make every tune sound lush and gorgeous.
