Brand New is definitely Rector’s best work so far. From the touching messages in the reflective songs and the “classic Ben” dance-around-your-room tunes, Ben Rector definitely beats anything on the radio right now.

Brand New is most successful when Rector is reflective on some of life’s greatest universal personal challenges including self-love, relationships, the pressures of success, living the best life you can, and yes, even longing for yesterday and going back to one’s roots. It doesn’t tread much in the way of new ground, but is sufficient in its ability to serve as a tool of musical sentimentality.

Reflection is a good overall theme for Brand New as Ben Rector approaches his 30th year on earth and it sets him up nicely to become one of our best singer-songwriters in the years to come as he’s already well on his way there.

Ben Rector fans and non-fans alike should listen to “Brand New.” With the same folky sounds and lyrical craftsmanship of his old albums, “Brand New” has turned Ben Rector into an artist that you don’t just want to dance to, you now also want to hear what he has to say.

Brand New is honest, personal and relatable. While Rector isn’t necessarily changing music as we know it with these simplistic and catchy tracks, many of these songs hold messages that will strike a chord or hit home with plenty of listeners, no matter their walk of life. The realism and specific stories in Brand New make the album strong and at its core, very human.

The person that makes something beautiful could provide hope, just like the album Brand New, which I think achieves this through the honest, personal, and relatable stories that are the basis for the songs on this album.
