Borderline
Borderline is the fourth studio album by country music duo Brooks & Dunn. Released in 1996 on Arista Records, the album produced five singles on the Hot Country Songs charts for the duo: the Number One hit "My Maria" (a cover of a pop tune originally recorded by B. W. Stevenson), the #2 "I Am That Man", the #13 "Mama Don't Get Dressed Up for Nothing" (their first non-Top 10 single), another #1 in "A Man This Lonely", and finally "Why Would I Say Goodbye" at #8. Borderline was certified 2× Platinum by the RIAA.
The song "My Love Will Follow You" was originally recorded by Buddy Miller on his 1995 album Your Love and Other Lies.-"Wikipedia"

My Kind of Country
The remainder of the songs on the album are generic filler and not worthy of any lengthy discussion. The production is solid throughout the album; it is somewhat baffling to come up with an explanation for why Brooks and Dunn weren’t able to come up with stronger material as they had on their previous releases. Borderline relies a little more on outside songwriters than the previous albums, but this actually one of the collection’s strengths, particularly in the case of “My Maria”.

Other than a powerful ballad or two and an entertaining novelty number about a wife bluntly persuading her man that they are going out on the town that night, too much of Borderline relies on country clichés and formulaic arrangements. These two failed to make an artistic statement that went beyond light entertainment.
