Behind the Mask

Behind the Mask is the fifteenth studio album by British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac, released in 1990. It was the first album released by the band after the departure of guitarist Lindsey Buckingham. He was replaced by Billy Burnette and Rick Vito, both guitar players, singers and songwriters. Fleetwood Mac thus became a six-piece band with four singer/songwriters. -Wikipedia

Never less than pleasant, but never of the calibre of the work of the previous lineup, either.

The first album since the band's 1975 self-titled effort without Lindsey Buckingham, and it certainly shows.

A very narrow "recommend," just because when it does take chances, it seems to succeed.

Stately sort of pop rock that ranges from ponderous to movingly effective.

Very good in places but is not among the better Fleetwood Mac pop releases. Its place in the group’s catalogue is that of a filler album.

The songs hardly add up to an album; the six musicians hardly add up to Fleetwood Mac.

Vito and Burnette create some excellent, if out of place material. It all added up to a somewhat disjointed release.

Most of the material is quite forgettable.

The album is not bad but didn’t measure up to the group’s best pop work.
