Axis: Bold as Love

Axis: Bold as Love is the second studio album by English-American rock band the Jimi Hendrix Experience. It was recorded to fulfill the Experience's contract, which stated that they had to produce two records in 1967. Axis: Bold as Love was first released in the United Kingdom by Track Records in December 1967, as the follow-up to the band's successful debut Are You Experienced, which had been released in May. Reprise Records chose not to release it in the United States until 1968, because of fears that it might interfere with the sales of the first album. Axis: Bold as Love charted at number five in the UK and number three in the US. -Wikipedia

[Axis] is a masterful work that comes together as a singular piece, built on theme and tone. It’s difficult at times, but rewarding. It’s bold. And it’s beautiful.

the album shines when Jimi plays to his strengths (groove, rhythm, guitar and his budding talent as a lyricist) and falls flat when he adopts some of the unconventional conventions of the period. -2014

The guitar might have been [Jimi]'s weapon of choice, but “Bold As Love” is further proof that the songwriting ammunition provided by Jimi Hendrix helped make that weapon so potent. -2012

What's amazing about Hendrix's music is how complex it manages to be whilst, at the same time, so incredibly loud and energetic - it's proof that you can play cutting-edge psychedelia without toning down the rock. -2014
