ARE YOU PASSIONATE

ARE YOU PASSIONATE - Is the 24th studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young, the only album to feature Booker T. & the M.G.'s, and his eighth with Crazy Horse, released on April 9, 2002 as a double LP and as a single CD. It represents Young's foray into soul music, not sounding like anything he had previously released. Exceptions are rocker "Goin' Home", recorded with Crazy Horse, and the brooding "Let's Roll", a response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The album ends with "She's a Healer", an extended jam. - WIKIPEDIA

2002 - hums on Young’s timeless brand of fossil fuel: love that burns, faith that endures and guitar solos that keep searching for a heart of gold.

That's right, the title is no joke -- this is a romantic album, grounded with tight Southern soul rhythms and dressed in Young's signature fuzz-tone Les Paul.

2002 - is uneven and overlong.

2002 - feels like an after-hours session, its songs weary and a little lost, but at times, Young makes those qualities work for him.

  • The Music Box

2002 - resonates with a deeply rooted sense of spiritualism, making it a loosely-based concept album for the post-9/11 world.

Neil sounds anything but passionate, largely coasting through the album.

In short, my message to Neil is to "get better again, please."

If you are the type of person who gets bored easily, I'd stay well away from this album.

With this oddly lackluster release Young lives up to one of Passionate's song titles: "Mr. Disappointment."
