Animals.

Animals is the tenth studio album by English rock band Pink Floyd. It was first released on 23 January 1977 by Harvest Records in the United Kingdom and by Columbia Records in the United States. It is a concept album that provides a scathing critique of the social-political conditions of late 1970s Britain, and presents a marked change in musical style from their earlier work. -Wikipedia

Animals is like George Orwell's Animal Farm run through a full- audio acid test- spectacular in every aspect and now in full color.

(1977) Animals is Floyd’s attempt to deal with the realization that spacing out isn’t the answer either. There’s no exit; you get high, you come down again. That’s what Pink Floyd has done, with a thud.

The band's bleakest studio album feels eerily relevant in these grave times.

Of all of the classic-era Pink Floyd albums, Animals is the strangest and darkest.

One of the more underrated classic albums, Pink Floyd‘s Animals is set up like an epic movie with three self-contained sub-chapters and sub-plots that somehow all tie together in the end.

The cool thing about art, anyway, is that we never have to agree with the artist - the only thing that matters is how effectively the artist gets his point across, and Animals passes that test with flying colors, an epic distillation of pure negativity in three parts.

It is an album we should all be paying more attention to. It certainly acts as a potent reminder that it wasn’t just the Punks who were discontent and kicking off in the late 70s.

In short, listen to this album. Listen to it. That's all, just listen to it now.

Animals is their most vicious attack, which abandons the timeless, hazy fluidity of The Dark Side of The Moon and its predecessors for something altogether more direct.

Animals stays true to their established style while also sounding like their later and more professional styles.

The story in Animals is a good story within itself. However, it’s the music behind the lyrics that make it truly unique in that they replicate the feeling of the moment such as the “Sheep” becoming victorious in the final segment.

Animals is one of the greatest progressive rock releases ever and should absolutely not fall by the wayside of the likes of Dark Side, Wish You Were Here and The Wall. It may not boast the immediacy of particular tracks within those others but its cunning and subtle hooks will embed deeply given half a chance.

In 2017, the points conveyed in Animals feels more relevant than ever and sound less strident than they did 40 years ago.

The lyrics are cutting and brutal and take no prisoners throughout. In itself, a brilliant but scathing commentary on society of the time.

David Gilmour may give his finest Floyd solos on this album. Great vocals, keyboard, bass and drums make this all into a great album.

40 years later Animals still resonates partly because it’s a very well-written, well-played and arranged record, partly because its themes are universal and partly because the pigs and dogs are once more on the rise.

This is the "pure" Pink Floyd not seen since Meddle, even if the style is drastically different, and it's a joy to behold. A must own.

Animals is the last of the golden run of 1970s Pink Floyd for me – subsequent records were dominated by Waters and then Gilmour, and this is the last where there’s a semblance of the old camaraderie.

The point here, however, is not perfection, but a fascinating glimpse of a band at work and on the move—at a time when superstars and open-minded audiences could share in the creative process.

Animals is a must-have album for any fan of Pink Floyd or the wider genre of progressive rock. Even within the legal disputes that came in the years after the album, the members of Pink Floyd still managed to demonstrate some of their signature approach to their art.
