AND WINTER CAME ...

And Winter Came... is the seventh studio album from the Irish singer, songwriter and musician Enya, released on 10 November 2008 by Warner Music. After recording some new Christmas songs for her fourth extended play, Sounds of the Season with Enya (2006), Enya proceeded to write and record a Christmas album of traditional carols and original Christmas songs, but the idea was changed to an album of songs with a Christmas or winter theme. It was recorded in Ireland with her longtime collaborators, arranger and producer Nicky Ryan and his wife, lyricist Roma Ryan.-Wikipedia

2008 - The album itself is typically Enya and is not going to disappoint any existing fan, as she overdubs her voice so that it sounds like a virtual choir and the sounds fit perfectly with her views of the emotional winter season ahead.

2008 - will undoubtedly appeal to people who are fans of Enya’s earlier work. It also gives enough reasons for people who might have gotten bored with her sound to tune back in.

An undeniably welcome addition to the holiday season, if only for its effortless, white, spray-painted pinecone elegance and potpourri-scented, gift shop comforts

2008 - And Winter Came is a fine Enya album with few surprises. You know what you’re getting when you put this album on for the first time. And that is ok, Chocolate is supposed to taste like chocolate and Enya is Enya. The album is beautiful and welcome, like Christmas itself.

2008 - though: all of the songs sound.. well, like Enya songs. ... There is one surprise, though - My! My! Time Flies! is much poppier than anything else here, but the presence of (gasp!) - an electric guitar riff! will surely horrify her fans.

2008 - A non-traditional “Christmas” album, And Winter Came… is a nice addition to other Christmas music staples. I highly recommend this album to kids and adults alike.

And Winter Came is, therefore, an album that – like its name suggests – contains some moments of beauty (like a frosty sunrise), but others to leave you depressed (like a wet and rainy winter’s day).

2008 - Ultimately, though, this record is as inoffensive as a scented festive plug-in, the perfect sprout-preparation music for households where tofurkey reigns supreme.

2008 - This, about a record released in time for the Christmas market, featuring sleigh bells, ponderous, pointless versions of O Come, O Come Emmanuel and Silent Night, and song titles such as White Is in the Winter Night and The Spirit of Christmas Past.

2008 - come darkness and some heavy snowfalls, And Winter Came will continue to draw out a deepening appreciation for Enya’s mystic styles

2008 - Enya composed, sang and played everything — creates a heavenly musical space where spirit reigns supreme

2008 - But the real treat of the album is an unexpected, up-tempo, Sgt. Pepper's-esque piece called "My! My! Time Flies!" wherein the Grammy-winning artist really stretches herself musically. Yes, Virginia, those are drums and guitar on an Enya track.

2008 - At most, And Winter Came will strike all the right chords with devoted followers of Enya, although too much of this sort of drowsy, insomnia-curing new-age stuff does get rather monotonous after a while.

2008 - I listened to these festive tunes while I decorated our Christmas tree and they were the perfect backdrop to a setting of baubles and twinkling stars. This would probably make the perfect present for your mum, just don't expect your cool Indie boyfriend to like it.
