AMERICAN LIFE

American Life is the ninth studio album by American singer and songwriter Madonna. It was first released on April 21, 2003, by Maverick Records and Warner Bros. Records. The album, produced in its entirety by Madonna and Mirwais Ahmadza , features references to many parts of American culture. The album is a concept album, with recurring themes of the American Dream and materialism. These themes reject the reputation Madonna held in the 1980s, earned by songs such as her worldwide hit "Material Girl" (1985). The album contains folk and folktronica music, as well as influences of acoustic music on many tracks. -WIKIPEDIA

Madonna’s already gone, however. 20 years on she remains an iconoclast and an enigma; always just out of reach, always untouchable, always moving, always ahead.

Madonna's oft-critiqued "MUSIC 2.0" is actually better than her previous album with Mirwais, and one of her finest.

Madonna has never been afraid to try new things, but that doesn't usually involve providing one-stop shopping for all of her most plodding and joyless material.

There are unironic arguments for substance over style, family over isolation, long-term love over flighty romance.

An unfortunately erratic album, American Life at least shows some depth for Madonna and manages to be worth listening to!

American Life is a challenging listen, not as accessible or mainstream as some of her fans (and critics) might like.

American Life a sonic conundrum, the weakest link in the queen of pop stars otherwise illustrious career.
