Almighty Fire

Almighty Fire is the twenty-fourth studio album by American singer Aretha Franklin, released on April 13, 1978 by Atlantic Records. By the time of this album's release, Aretha Franklin was going through a commercial slump, due in part to the widespread popularity of disco. Aretha was reunited with Curtis Mayfield after their earlier success together with the Sparkle soundtrack. However, the album failed to turn around the singer's fortunes on the charts, selling only about 100,000 copies and peaking at a dismal #83 on the Billboard album chart. The title single reached at #12 on the Billboard R&B Singles Chart and the follow-up single, "More Than Just a Joy", peaked at #51. The album was belatedly released on compact disc in Europe in 2008.

Review Year: 2011 The song takes the listener to a higher level while listening and throws you down like rollercoaster when Aretha’s vocal do their aerobics. As sweet as honey and lovely as can be, that’s how I describe this song.

Well, she did call the last one Sweet Passion, and if she calls the next one Transcendent Glory it won't bring the spirit back.

Review Year: 2013 But numbers don’t always matter. On this project, like her others, Franklin proves that when her voice touches the mic, she indeed burns down the house. In the long run, that’s what counts.

Another collaboration with Mayfield; this one didn't sell, which is no surprise: it's dull and monotonous, with the same smooth disco sheen over every track, and hardly any real melodies or interesting lyrics.
