A Day Without Rain

A Day Without Rain is the fifth studio album by the Irish singer, songwriter and musician Enya, released on 20 November 2000 by Warner Music. Following a promotional tour in support of her compilation album Paint the Sky with Stars (1997), Enya took a short break before she resumed writing and recording a new album in 1998 with her usual recording partners, producer and arranger Nicky Ryan and his wife, lyricist Roma Ryan. -Wikipedia

This is music that works almost entirely as a surface pleasure; strip it of its pretensions, and it's just contemporary easy listening music.

A Day Without Rain does little to deviate from the formulas of the five-year-old The Memory Of Trees, the nine-year-old Shepherd Moons, the twelve-year-old Watermark, and so on.

2000 - It's undeniably enchanting in places, but long before the end the songs begin to merge into each other and the old objection remains: if you already own an Enya album why would you need another?

But Enya's the kind of artist who makes you think, if this piffle got them through it, how dark could their night have been? Like Master P or Michael Bolton only worse, she tests one's faith in democracy itself

2000 - "A Day Without Rain" seems more of a piece, as if Enya had sought to compose a suite instead of a pop album

2000 - It's all quintessential Enya. In today's world of teen pop frothiness, rock-rap angst, metal aggression and rap grittiness, her soothing music interludes seem like some sort of otherworldly concoction.

2000 - a tremendous album that will appeal to Enya's fans and bring her new ones. With music worthy of a trans-Atlantic journey, it is truly a must listen!

2000 - Day Without Rain is not an album that's certain to grab you on first listen, but after several plays, it becomes so enticing that, like all of Enya's music, it's hard to resist.

2002 - In today music, where the focus is completely based on rhythm, Enya’s album shows both rhythm and melody.

Still, "A Day Without Rain" sounds vaguely familiar — and familiarly vague.
