Skillet's fan base will love this record. There aren't a lot of risks taken, but the execution and songwriting are flawless. The album flows well and there's nary a moment of filler.

While Victorious may not necessarily turn nonbelievers into disciples, it successfully carries the torch for Skillet’s motivational message with a few welcome developments. With all of this going for it, Skillet wins round 10 in a TKO.

My opinion of this album is that it takes you on a roller coaster of ups and downs with its tempo. There wasn’t a song on ‘Victorious’ that I didn’t like at least some aspect of.

Victorious is a beautifully produced and executed album, right from the off you are fully immersed in a majestic sonic roller coaster that pushes and pulls your from one end to the other, the fluid songwriting is highly immersive and the rich vocal quality of both Cooper and Ledger interacting make for a highly addictive and engaging album.

Honestly, the most frustrating thing with Victorious isn’t even the bland direction in material, it’s instead the overbearing fact that at the band’s core are a collective of solid musicians that can do better than this.

"Victorious" may not truly live up to its titular, but it does offer songs that detail issues that pertain to the struggles of life. And they do lead us to the Gospel in ways that are organic, affective and palatable.

Overall, the most devoted of Skillet fans will eat this album up and jam to the heavy songs and even enjoy the slower moments, but people outside of that who want to see Skillet truly evolve will not have as much victory in their hopes with this album.

This album is arguably the biggest and most impactful Skillet release to date. Destined to make a huge impact in the rock community, Victorious also contains several potential cross-over hits that could bring the lifesaving message to an even larger audience.

  • Under the Radar

Having outgrown the insular Christian rock scene and finding themselves sharing stages with some of the titans of their genre, the band emerge with more positive, hard, and heavy anthems of hope. The problem facing John Cooper and his experienced team is how to keep it fresh. Here they try and do it with processed drums on "Legendary" and an incredibly bright mix, which renders songs such as "Save Me" and "Rise Up" perfect for radio play but lacking the bite and aggression which would truly make them noteworthy.

If you liked the last couple of Skillet records I think you will like this one. And if you haven’t heard them but like bands like Shinedown, it would be worth you while to give this one a listen.

Victorious is a solid if not spectacular effort that likely won’t perk the interest of many new listeners, but will keep the Skillet faithful singing along in agreement…or whatever.

Skillet’s John and Korey Cooper sing/shout the anthemic chorus to “Victorious,” the title track off this the band’s latest full-length effort, it creates the kind of adrenaline rush that propels Rocky to victory in the final round of (nearly) every fight. With this winning message, Christians can share in “victory through our Lord Jesus Christ,” as 1 Corinthians 15:57 reminds us.

  • The Sound Board

The worst thing is it looks like this is their existence for the long haul now, embracing the cycle of a band guaranteed to find success through their tepid, unfulfilling means, and if calling this album Victorious is the taunt that Skillet know how well this works for them, that’s just an unnecessary amount of extra salt in the wound.

SKILLET must be the most significant “new” Rock band in the world these days, they reign (no pun intended) the Alternative, Classic Rock and Christian music markets and charts. Sound-wise there is a little bit of Post-Grunge, Industrial high definition arrangements, some Arena Rock and nowadays; IMAGINE DRAGONS influence.
