Urban Rapsody
| Rick JamesUrban Rapsody
Urban Rapsody is the final album released by American funk singer Rick James before his death. It was released through Mercury Records and Private-I Records in 1997. The album combines rap and funk. Urban Rapsody received both a Parental Advisory sticker, James' only album with it, and mixed reviews. It was his first release since 1988's Wonderful, due to substance abuse problems and an extended period of incarceration. -Wikipedia

While the lack of variety prevents Urban Rapsody from being a totally triumphant comeback, the cuts that do work help make the record his best album in over a decade.

The marginal Rapsody will get airplay not because of guests like Snoop Doggy Dogg, but because of the ’80s-style groove, bass pops, and pimp musings that were once James trademarks. Has his sound evolved? Not really. Is he still a superfreak? Yep.
