Sputnik Music
At turns fun, sentimental, and smooth, Rick James makes some good music. This “Motown classic” Street Songs is a testament to that.

He was truly a new voice in funk and is undeservedly ignored.

‘Street Songs’ reflected the conflicting duality at the heart of his “punk funk” aesthetic.
-
Popdose
The best solo album from a bloke whose ego and martyr complex is about as big as the pig which floats overhead at his concerts.

There's never been any doubt that James was commercial, as they say, but this time that's a plus--when he's not rocking, which is mostly, he even comes up with some dynamite love-man bullshit.
