On Through The Night

On Through the Night is the debut studio album by the English rock band Def Leppard, released on 14 March 1980. The album was produced by Tom Allom. It charted at No. 15 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 51 on the Billboard 200.[2] The album features re-recorded versions of "Rocks Off" and "Overture", tracks from the band's original independently released EP, The Def Leppard E.P. Other tracks are re-recorded versions of early demos, some of which later appeared on the First Strike and Warchild bootlegs. The album was certified gold by the RIAA on 18 November 1983 and platinum on 9 May 1989. - WIKIPEDIA

The album, which contains songs then described as “working-class hard rock anthems” are raw and energetic and was produced in a way which is a little short of professional, but this may be part of the overall charm.

1980 - Displaying a wisdom beyond their years, Def Leppard take the timeworn basics of heavy metal, give them a punky Eighties overhaul and come up with, uh, heavy melody. On through the Night is awfully impressive for a band making its vinyl debut.

  • ALL MUSIC

On Through the Night is a collection of working-class hard rock anthems informed by the big, glittering hooks of glam rock. It may lack the detailed production and more pop-oriented songwriting of later efforts, but it's also arguably their heaviest album, and some Leppard fans prefer this sound.

Generally the music is more complicated and the playing is more technical than other Leppard records (it's not f**king Dream Theater, but the boys can play their instruments).

2017 - The instrumentals are incredible, each track was quite powerful, and I really appreciate the overall flow of the songs.
