Bangerz

Bangerz is the fourth studio album by American singer Miley Cyrus. It was released on October 4, 2013, by RCA Records. Opting to re-establish her music career instead of focusing on her film career as originally planned, Cyrus began planning the project in late 2012. Work continued into 2013 when she joined RCA Records. Described by Cyrus as "dirty south hip-hop" Wikipedia

"Bangerz" is neither the best nor worst pop album released this year, but it's inarguably the most fiercely individual.

Bangerz is the sound of Hannah Montana gone Miami Vice.

This is an excellent representation of the way that pop is drifting into hip-hop, though; Seeing all these names come together in one album doesn’t feel that surprising.

Miley Cyrus’ ‘Bangerz’ serves up the perfectly American horrorshow we deserve.

But for all the mash-ups, Bangerz feels stitched together in the dark, and the attention-seeking begins to grate.

Bangerz is a personal, idiosyncratic effort that finds equal rewards in twentysomething indulgence and inspiring “be yourself” mantras.

“Bangerz” is all over the map. It’s expensively made and tailored song-for-song to showcase Cyrus’ affinities and still-growing sense of style and delivery.

Simply put, “Bangerz” is the first album of the Grown-Up Miley era — Ms. Cyrus is 20 — and the first that’s not a direct inheritance of her days as the Disney idol Hannah Montana.

Bangerz may be about breaking up and wilding out, but it also agitates for the future.

There's ballads, bangerz and a semi-country song. We applaud the ambitiousness, but it feels unharnessed. But that's the stuff of life and music that makes people and artists interesting.

There are no “rules” anymore for Cyrus to break, and on Bangerz, she tries just about anything to gain our attention. And guess what? She has.

There are some great songs on Bangerz, but there, and elsewhere, she’s banging so loud that it just sounds like noise.

Without wishing to intrude on anyone's Twitter spat, it's impossible to ignore the sense of desperation about Bangerz, a gauche and graceless attempt to de-infantilise a child star.

By pushing her own creative boundaries, a justifiably confident Cyrus subverts the pop genre and in doing so creates an album that is as fresh as it is satisfying.

While still in need of some polishing, Miley is forging her own personal brand of Southern hip-hop, and if you can come at it with an open mind untainted by the singer’s most recent public appearances, Bangerz honestly ain’t half bad.

“Bangerz” is like playing an undetected but well-calculated royal flush hand in a game of poker. No one will suspect that Cyrus’ twerking and sexualized conduct throughout her promotional rounds toward the release of this project would bring about a suitable and vastly rewarding end game.
