  • Sound In Review

Overall, 9 has some good moments, but the mellow nature of the album and the number of songs that really do not offer a wide range of tempos or feels makes the album a little underwhelming as a whole.

  • Saving Country Music

But somehow, ‘9’ is even more disappointing than you would even expect. There’s no real takeaway tracks, no hope for Aldean’s future efforts, no transitioning back to the type of quality and country-sounding songs from earlier in his career to keep up since the greater mainstream realm seems to be sliding more in that direction.

9 is a perfectly serviceable album but it’s not particularly memorable.

That it's executed well is expected, possibly welcome, but the professionalism also has a bit of a dulling effect, sanding away any sense of personality, an end result that's slightly ironic because there's no mistaking 9 for the work of anybody else. Its cool, reserved, dour vibe is purely Aldean.

  • Think Country Music

The team created this project, and as someone who grew up on full-length albums, I can say this is what 9 is, a true record album. Each track flows to the next in a sensible order. It’s meant to be listened to as it was recorded. . . . Every song is that good.

  • Get Ready To Rock

‘9’ is his ninth album to date and one that is set to keep his album sales growing. Modern country with a healthy dose of rock, this one comes recommended.

. . . these current sounds stick closely to guitar rock, with just a few country-leaning songs thrown in. Lyrically, these tracks don't tell us anything we didn't already know about Aldean. It won't gain any new fans, then, nor lose any longtime admirers.

. . . he continues to hold his ground making modern albums with an old-school soul.

  • Your Life In A Song

‘9’ is jam-packed with songs that put a grin on your face and an ear-worm riff in your head. But there are too many of them and too many sound like things we have heard from him before for it to be a great album. It’s certainly his best album since ‘Night Train’ and one that contains at least 6 tracks that have a lifespan outside of the album itself.

. . . Aldean’s refreshingly mature at times on his latest album. The good outweighs the bad on 9.

  • The Rocking Magpie

With so many Music Row Country albums being ‘painted by numbers’ 9 by Jason Aldean sounds fresh, exciting and dare I say it much more than just “Three Chords….. and The Truth”

9 is not just a great album, perhaps even a contender for a top 5 of 2019, but a testament to Aldean’s longevity and success. Many artists fall by the wayside and lose their magic after a few records, but on the back of this, it’s clear Aldean’s magic is only ever getting stronger.

Jason Aldean is just a living guarantee for powerful modern country songs. 9 is a strong album without really weak songs. It is more than solid, it is rocking, . . . There is just one reason why it is definitely not a Top Pick rating: the songs are just too similar. Half of the tracks would feel to lead to the same album.

The 16-track project continues to showcase the ACM Artist of the Decade recipient’s reigning power in country music. While giving us his signature rock-inspired anthems, we also see the singer pushing limits to display his vulnerabilities in emotional tracks.

  • PRESS-REPUBLICAN

. . . it’s very refreshing to still have artists’ such as Aldean realize the importance of putting out a full album, and not one single at a time to “see how it does.” In fact, this whole album seems like one continuous song…like one story that just keeps going.

  • The Musical Divide

As a whole, though, even if 9 carries hints and promises of how Aldean could transition nicely to where country music is heading, between dated, bad production choices and writing that’s rarely interesting, this feels like same album he’s been releasing for the past seven or eight years, at least. . . . Either way, 9 doesn’t offer enough clumsy missteps to be called bad, but it also doesn’t offer much in the way of true highlights.

  • Apple Music

The discography that Jason Aldean has built since the mid-aughts reflects a distinctly modern country-music mindset;. . . . On his new album—titled 9, both for where it falls in the chronology and for the number he wore on the baseball jerseys of his youth—he sounds a bit more seasoned working in familiar modes.

  • Rock 'N' Load

Overall Studio 9 is another great album from Jason Aldean to showcase that modern Country is not what we expect and has a lot more depth to it. From the classic ballads to feel-good tracks to hard-hitting guitar riffs, all blended with melodic vocals, there is something for everyone as the album seamlessly plays through.

  • Review Corner

. . . it’s what a certain style of country should sound like, that style being the music to accompany drivers along the endless roads of rural states, or to play loud in sports bars. It doesn’t want to be interesting; it just needs to be background music you can tap your boot-shod toes to. Musically, it’s muscular with several guitar solos for fans who are still sober enough to attempt the air guitar.

  • Sounds-Of-South.DE

My only criticism this time, . . . is that all the pieces are constructed too similarly to me: mid-tempo or ballad-like stanza construction, emotional / pathetic power refrain, electric guitar solo with a few steel supports, all of course highly melodic and very catchy , So the 16 songs appear somewhat 'streamlined' over the entire season. Ultimately, of course, “9” remains an excellent album, any interpreter would be happy to be able to call such a work as this by Jason Aldean as part of his vita.

A total of 16 pieces are delivered by Jason Aldean on 9 . These result in a successful album, in which one wonders why this musician is actually not much more successful in this country. If you like well-made guitar rock with harder hits and a lot of melody, you should give Jason Aldean his deserved chance!
