Critic Reviews
Show All-
Rolling Stone
Though they wield guitars and punk-y attitude, 5SOS actually have a lot more One Direction than Green Day in their DNA.
-
NY Daily News
-they do provide a nice alternative — one with fetching songs and just enough sass to stand out.
-
Sputnik Music
Although they have some good riffs here and there, they are pretty unoriginal, the lyrics are laughable, the vocals are... well, okay, but nothing that is worth to be of praise.
-
LA Times
5 Seconds of Summer sticks to crunching, tuneful pop-punk that pulls unabashedly from Blink-182, the English band Busted and, of course, Green Day, whose music Hemmings describes making out to in "Long Way Home."
-
Black and Gold news
I enjoyed this album because they sing about love and there are some songs about breakups, but it is mostly about love and being together.
-
Panther Now
All in all, these guys are much more than some boys playing instruments, making music, and this album reflects that. They have substance to their songs and show potential for a long and great career ahead of them.
-
Plugged In
A 12-song collection of gang-vocal-filled, euphoria-inciting pop rock (for some teen girls, anyway) from the music world's latest wannabe apex predator.
-
Yuppee
this debut release from 5 Seconds of Summer is definitely worth a listen for any pop OR pop-punk fan and on the whole is a good, fun, summer album and is sure to catapult 5SOS into bigger things.
-
The Up Coming
Fingers crossed their next effort has a bit more character and variation and isn’t lost in in the sea of over-produced commercial pop.
-
Daily Star
THEIR alliance with 1D might have given some people the wrong impression about these Aussies, but this debut album proves they can rock.
-
Boston Globe
No wonder One Direction has toured with the group twice; 5 Seconds Of Summer can keep up, while never posing a threat.
-
Mind Equals Blown
In an overall sense, 5 Seconds of Summer’s debut album is quite impressive with its utter catchy choruses and peppy guitar riffs strung throughout each song.
