  • Saving Country Music

There’s a reflective thoughtfulness that’s more mature and meaningful here, even if it still has a mainstream feel. Others in the independent ranks of country music will make better records in 2021 than 29. But few if any that find their home on major labels and country radio will.

  • Your Life in a Song

As far as mainstream country releases go, you won’t find a braver, more forthright collection. Pearce truly wears her heart on her sleeve and bares all, which is the epitome and the biggest compliment of an accomplished country songwriter. If this sets the tone for what to expect in the future from Pearce, we’re in for plenty more treats to come, and it feels like a giant leap into a whole new chapter for her in terms of quality and vulnerability.

  • Staccatofy

Pearce is singing with charm, style, and an authentic country flair. “Next Girl” is a fun song with beautiful singing. “Should’ve Known Better” shows Pearce’s vocal range and technical command. “Liability” is a solid pop-country song that has a broad appeal. Pearce’s vocal coloration for the emotion of each song is lovely. The production and playing are outstanding; 29 is stunning from start to finish. That’s the short of it!

  • All Music

While Pearce's lyrics can occasionally be a bit too on-the-nose -- it's not that she delves into personal details, it's that she ties up her messy emotions with a tidy bow -- her vulnerability is endearing, and the craftsmanship, aided by producers Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne, is sturdy, so the music retains its appeal even after the stories become familiar.

  • Belles and Gals

The result, a collection appropriately titled “29” (released last Friday via Big Machine Records) brings together seven of the most beautifully crafted songs I have heard in a longtime. Vocally this is a masterpiece too, delivered from her very heart and soul as only someone who has lived and learnt from these experiences could do.
