You can only hear this by buying a copy of The Mirror. Don't bother

  • Music OMH

In fact it’s one of the slightest albums the man has ever recorded; fluffy, anti-climatic, and utterly boring.

  • All Music

Everything on 20Ten exists on the surface: hooks don’t sink in, funk jams are stuck in low gear, sensuality only simmers, the rhythms are somewhat stiff

20Ten reminds us of some of his best work in the past few decades

  • Beats per Minute

When he breaks it down on numerous songs he doesn’t do much more than play safely inside the same key. Hell I can’t even recall a single guitar solo. Not one.

But the rest of the album is easily Prince’s most coherent and satisfying record in more than a decade.

With 20Ten however, Prince has given friends, fans and critics alike a reason to not only celebrate his music once again, but also a reason to stop arguing about if and when he’d return to prominence.

It’s fun, topical, I can dance to the hot songs and might wanna fuck to the slow ones if I had someone to hook up with

while it is a nice album, it hardly sets new standards and in my opinion falls short of ... Musicology

It is fresh and it is catchy and it is funky and it has close to no weak tracks, a problem many of his recent releases have suffered from.

has the cheapening, if probably largely false, air of a record created specifically to be given away for nothing with a low-brow tabloid

'20Ten' contains 3 or 4 tracks of genuine quality, 2 or 3 tracks that are merely good and then a couple of forgettable numbers that may as well not be here.

  • Just William's Luck

It aint that great. It isn't totally awful, there are even some hints at a genuine return to form, but there are also some moments, usually lyrical rather than musical, that made me want to curl up and die for him.

“20TEN” is classic Prince, but not a classic.

  • Back Beat Seattle

Every other song on this record sounds exactly the same. Most of the time it’s repetitive and boring and makes you wonder what the hell happened to Prince.

it feels good to hear a Prince pop record that seems to just wanna make you sing along with the choruses and dance the end of the world (or just the workday) away

  • Totally Dublin

The main problem with 20Ten is that it rarely excites, instead offering just fleeting glimpses of its creator’s indisputable talent. The effect is like going on a disappointing first date

20Ten doesn’t even have that terrific guitar to spur it forward. It is as bad as Prince gets and still not terrible.

The more times I listen to it, the better it gets. At 52 years old, Prince is still going very strong.
